ODISSEIA Douro Red Grand Reserve 2015

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 92pts, Mark Squires

“The 2011 Grande Reserva is mostly an equal blend of Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, with 20% Touriga Nacional, aged for 14 months in new, 500-liter French barrels. Potentially gorgeous, this Grande Reserva is held back a bit at the moment by its new oak, far too sweet and aggressive on the palate. For all that, it is otherwise perfectly constructed, impeccably balanced, graceful and rather delicious. The question here will be when and if it pulls in all that new oak. If it doesn’t go away, exactly, it should at least improve to the point where it is not so objectionable. This will need a couple of more years of cellaring, though, to get there or you will have to be rather oak tolerant. Other than that one issue, this is shows finesse and elegance. It has a lot of upside potential, but let’s be just a bit conservative right now. This was scheduled for release in the USA sometime in 2016, the exact date not being set out as yet.” – 31st Dec 2015
